THE WAY OF TENDERNESS: A STUDY AND PLAY RETREAT

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED
SPACE IS LIMITED TO 20

In 1967, Tassajara was established as the first Zen training monastery outside of Japan, and offers monastic training periods during the fall and winter months. Each year from May to September, Tassajara, or Zenshinji (Zen Heart-Mind Temple), as it is known formally, opens its gates to students and guests alike for the summer guest season.

This year Zenju Earthlyn Manuel will be leading a private Dharma study weekend for people of color August 18th – 21st.  No Buddhist practice experience necessary. Students can fully enjoy the experience of meditation, rejuvenation, and renewal. For a few days, step away from the busyness and pressures of your life, and find the rhythm of your own breath. Feel the summer breeze, enjoy delicious food, and immerse yourself in the healing waters of the hot springs, the refreshing cool of Tassajara Creek and swimming pool.

I share these words from Marni Gauthier about her retreats: “The importance of retreat for nourishment, perspective, renewal and growth cannot be overstated. Simply put, retreat is essential to a conscious, creative existence in which you are the author and artist of your life, rather than a reactive force in its mix.  What occurs on a well-designed, well-purposed retreat is advancement. Four Site retreats are a deep dive into the principles in practice. Through individual and collaborative experiential learning, along with relaxation and replenishment, you will emerge with a clear and compelling purpose, vision, and practical steps for what’s next on your path.”

Costs: $310 (subject to change) for food, housing, and a free stage ride to and from the door of the Center because of treacherous road there. We will carpool from Oakland CA and then board the stage in Jamestown, CA. Please register below.

Partial Payments:  Do not register below if you need to pay in two or three parts. Send parts accordingly (1,2,and 3). Please send your payments to Zenju Earthlyn Manuel in her name (this will go to Zen Center once the total amount is received) before June 1, 2016.  Mail to 3758 Grand Ave. #1 Oakland, CA 94610. Send an email to info@zenju.org and let us know that you are making payments and you will be manually registered.

What You Need to Know:  There will be a detailed letter sent to you by June 2016 with information on what to bring. There are no refunds since these funds go directly to and are handled by Zen Center. The teacher does not receive any of the $310. So there will be a donation collected at the end of the retreat. Please send email to info@zenju.org if you have questions.

NOTE: There will be other retreats in process at Tassajara, students, guest students and general guests visiting the Center during our weekend who are mostly not people of color. However, we will be together in our own sanctuary for study, discussion, movement activities, and housing. Otherwise we will share with others the meditation hall (zendo) and guests dining area with a reserved table for our group.
